Braniff International Airways President Chas. E. Beard looked over models of proposed U.S.-built supersonic transports as he announced that Braniff reserved delivery positions for two of the faster-than-sound airliners. Braniff signed a contract with the Federal Aviation Agency and placed a $200,000 cash deposit with the government to help defray the cost of developing the 2,000 mile per hour planes which were expected to be operational in the early 1970s.
